Katie Merrick

As Investment Analyst, Katie Merrick is responsible for analyzing the foundation’s investments. She also plays a key role in developing and monitoring its proxy voting and other capital alignment programs.

Katie was Internal Audit Manager for Marvell Semiconductor in Santa Clara, Calif., where she helped establish and develop the Internal Audit Department. Previously, she was Internal Auditor for Ernst & Young in Palo Alto, executing traditional internal audits, participating in annual risk assessments and preparing large companies for Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance.

She enjoys tutoring preteens from East Palo Alto and Redwood City through volunteer programs offered by Beechwood School and the LDS Church. She recently coordinated fundraising and volunteer efforts to rehabilitate one home in East Palo Alto, Calif., as a volunteer coordinator for Rebuilding Together.

Katie earned a B.A. in economics from Brigham Young University. Her favorite leisure activity is cycling.

But along with its increasing popularity has come less certainty about what exactly a social entrepreneur is and does. As a result, all sorts of activities are now being called social entrepreneurship.
